Ramp Installation

One mechanism for bringing equipment into a room with a raised access floor is through ramps.

Ramps are the most popular choice when it comes to enabling people and materials to be brought into a room with a raised access floor.

Ramps enable sufficient room for maneuvering large equipment in or out of a room with a raised access floor. When designing your ramp, keep in mind the advantages of having floor space serve multiple functions.

A steeper incline means a shorter ramp but makes it significantly more difficult to steer heavy equipment in or out of the facility. Full server cabinets and other equipment can be quite heavy, so it would be much harder to move them up a steep rise than a shallow one.

Benefits of Ramp Installations

  • Movement of Equipment

Full server cabinets and other equipment can be quite heavy to transfer. Pushing an object up a ramp makes transferring objects a lot easier and safer for people.

  • Code Compliance

A ramp’s length is determined by two factors—the height of the raised floor and the slope used to reach that height. In the United States, Data Center ramps feature a 1 in 12 incline. Such a slope is considered acceptable under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, which is designed to make all workplace areas accessible to those with disabilities.

  • Employee Safety

Ramp handrails prevent a person or piece of equipment from accidentally slipping off a ramp edge. For the same reasons, it is advisable to install slip-resistant tread on the ramp.
